Florida Atlantic University conferred more than 1,700 degrees on August 4 during three commencement ceremonies in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on the Boca Raton campus. The new graduates join more than 145,000 alumni who have graduated from FAU since the University opened its doors in 1964.

鈥淚t is an honor to be here today to celebrate the hard work and successes of Florida Atlantic University鈥檚 啵啵直播秀,鈥 said FAU President John Kelly. 鈥淚 join all family members and friends in congratulating the graduates on reaching this major milestone in their lives.鈥

Summer commencement also highlighted the accomplishments of outstanding graduates, including:

  • Camilla Castro, 23, received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biology from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. While serving as president of FAU鈥檚 American Medical Student Association (AMSA), Castro pioneered a low-budget medical relief trip to Nassau, New Providence for pre-health undergraduates. Since the first trip in 2013, more than 100 FAU 啵啵直播秀 have made the trip, and it鈥檚 now offered twice a year. Students have the opportunity to shadow doctors, volunteer at the All Saints AIDS/HIV Hospice, and screen Bahamians for high blood pressure. Following graduation, Castro plans to attend medical school and continue her international relief efforts by creating a nonprofit organization.

鈥淓ach and every year at commencement, I鈥檓 reminded of the impact FAU has, and will continue to have, on its 啵啵直播秀, faculty, staff and the six-county region it serves,鈥 said Anthony Barbar, chair of FAU鈥檚 Board of Trustees. 鈥淪peaking for the Trustees, I commend the Class of 2015. As an FAU alumnus myself, I鈥檓 moved and impressed by the accomplishments of this year鈥檚 graduates.鈥

Some interesting statistics regarding the summer graduating class include the fact that 42 of the degree recipients are over the age of 50. The oldest graduate is 72, and the youngest is 18. The graduates represent 37 countries.
