Florida Atlantic University’s annual dance marathon fundraiser, known as OwlThon, recently raised $244,654.90 for charity, a new record in fundraising for this event. The event raises money and awareness for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) and proceeds from the event go directly to University of Florida’s Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville.

The theme of this year’s OwlThon was “Birthday Party.” More than 200 ֱ danced on their feet for 13.1 hours, which was meant to give them a greater understanding of the struggles that children go through as they are treated for their illnesses at CMN hospitals.

“The impact that was felt in that room was indescribable,” said Isabella Soublette, OwlThon director. “I have loved watching this event grow each year because of the incredible ֱ at FAU.”

The event featured a magician, baby goats, a silent disco, a dodgeball tournament and virtual reality games.

FAU is one of more than 350 schools across the country raising money for CMN. Dance marathons raised more than $38 million for CMN hospitals in 2017.
