The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter will present a one-man show by Clifton Truman Daniel, an author and the grandson of former U.S. President Harry S. Truman, on Friday, Jan.11, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at FAUās John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter.
āGive āEm Hell, Harry!ā by Samuel Gallu is a play about President Trumanās life and presidency. It spans his childhood, his āpolitical apprenticeshipā as a judge in Jackson County, Missouri, his years in the U.S. Senate and his two terms as president. The one-man show captures some of Trumanās momentous decisions, such the atomic bombings, the Korean War, the firing of U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur, and the recognition of Israel. Actor James Whitmore originated the role in 1975. Daniel took up the mantle in October 2017, marking the first time in history a U.S. president would be portrayed on-stage by a direct descendant.
Daniel is the honorary chairman of the board of the Truman Library Institute, the nonprofit partner of the Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri, and board secretary for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. He is the author of āGrowing Up With My Grandfather: Memories of Harry S. Trumanā and āDear Harry, Love Bess: Bess Trumanās Letters to Harry Truman, 1919ā1943.ā
