The album“Bogotá – Buenos Aires,†which was produced at Florida Atlantic University’s Hoot/Wisdom Recordings under the direction of FAU associate professor Alejandro-Sánchez Samper, received a GRAMMY nomination in the “Best Tango Album†category for the 16th annual Latin GRAMMY à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã®. The album was one of six nominated in the tango category, and the winning album will be announced at the Latin GRAMMY à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã event on Thursday, Nov. 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Bogotá – Buenos Aires,†which was recorded at FAU and released on June 30 through Hoot/Wisdom Recordings, is a fusion of contemporary Argentinian arrangements and Colombian Andean folk rhythms interpreted by the Quinteto Leopoldo Federico, a contemporary tango quintet from Colombia. The quintet is composed of Giovanni Parra (bandoneon), Alberto Tamayo (piano), Miguel Ãngel Guevara (violin), Kike Harker (contrabass) and Francisco Avellaneda (guitar), and pays homage to the late Argentine bandoneon player Leopoldo Federico. “Bogotá – Buenos Aires†is the group’s debut album and was produced by Sánchez-Samper and Giovanni Parra, the director of the Quinteto.

“I am thrilled to have recruited the Quinteto Leopoldo Federico to record this album, and it is an honor to have been nominated at the GRAMMY à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã,†said Sánchez-Samper. “It was also exciting to engineer the album with current and former FAU à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã, including FAU alumnus Matt Baltrucki. Projects like this one offer à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã the opportunity to work on world class music.â€

Hoot/Wisdom Recordings is part of the Commercial Music à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã in the Department of Music in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. It is a student-run record label where à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã are involved in all aspects of the label, including songwriting, choreography, production, engineering, recording services, video services, promotion and marketing, talent scouting, promotions and marketing, web site management, newsletter production, finance, legal issues, and accounting.  Hoot Wisdom was established in 2003 and has produced 22 albums to date.
