FAU Presents Several Holiday Concerts
Concerts include Handel's Messiah, An Ellington Nutcracker, Madrigal Dinner and Tuba Christmas.
Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present several holiday concerts throughout the month of December.
The first is the holiday classic Handel’s “Messiah,” on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at or by calling 800-564-9539. Conducted by Patricia P. Fleitas, FAU’s presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” features past and current FAU choral ֱ and faculty.
The Florida Wind Symphony Jazz Orchestra will present “An Ellington Nutcracker” on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m., which will include Duke Ellington’s take on the “Nutcracker” Suite and more holiday favorites. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at or by calling 800-564-9539. The Florida Wind Symphony is conducted by Kyle Prescott.
FAU’s choral groups will once again present the Madrigal Dinner on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. XXX at the Vintage Gymnasium in the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square in Delray Beach. Now in its fifth year, the FAU Madrigal Dinner brings the courtly tradition of pageantry, entertainment, a savory feast and extraordinary music to life. FAU ֱ delight and entertain, and guests are invited to join the fun and dress in period costumes if they choose. Single tickets are $100 (which includes a $55 tax-deductible gift) and tables of eight are $1,000 (including a $640 tax-deductible gift). FAU also will once again present Tuba Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. in the Mizner Park Amphitheater. This tradition of holiday music performed by tubas and euphoniums, which was started by Indiana University professor Harvey G. Phillips, Ph.D., is presented to the South Florida community by FAU’s Sean Murray. This is an outdoor, free event and audience members are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets.
