FAU Teams Win at Florida Food Future Hackathon

Florida Atlantic University’s ֱ recently competed in Florida Food Future Hackathon as part of Florida Food Waste Prevention Week. The event brought university and high school ֱ together to source innovative solutions for reducing food waste.  

won the “Best Tech” award led by Ronald Desbrunes, Julie Deshommes, Skyler Hamilton, Tyler Phillips, and Keyshawn Hutchinson. 

won the “Best Overall Idea” and “Most Popular” awards led by Sara Hollenbeck, Thu Nguyen, Emily Altman, Ryan Thomas and Nicole England.

“I am so proud of the hard work and creativity of our FAU ֱ who have realized how important it is to solve the issue of food waste, and I am inspired by their personal call to action,” said , Ph.D., associate chair and professor in FAU’s Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering. 

Reducing food waste saves money, reduces hunger and protects the environment. There is a high demand for innovative ideas, processes and initiatives to solve this global issue, Meeroff said.
