FAU’s Advising ֱs Receive Top Award

Florida Atlantic University’sֱ has been recognized nationally with a top award. Jasmine Moore, assistant director of Educate Tomorrow at FAU, received the2019 Outstanding Advising Award for a primary advising role.
Moore has been working withinfor close to four years where her foundation in academic coaching began during her time with the, alsorecognized as one of the top seven programs in the country for 2019 by NACADA.
“University Advising Services and Academic Affairs are so proud of Jasmine and the Educate Tomorrow at FAU program she has built,” said Joe Murray, assistant dean of University Advising Services at FAU. “This program is changing generational outcomes.”
The Educate Tomorrow program was designed to support FAU ֱ who were previously foster or homeless youth with wrap-around services from admission to graduation. Its mission is to create a strong foundation of support, academic coaching, career advising and access to services – both on and off campus.
Nationally, college graduation rates for this population ranges from 3 to 11 percent according to. Through intensive support, wrap around services and academic coaching, FAU has been able to raise graduation rates for these ֱ to 46 percent. FAU’s goal for the next five years is to bring that number up to 70 percent.
“It’s truly an honor to receive this award for the collective work we achieve as a team in University Advising Services,” said Moore. “We put ֱ first, and I believe that is evident through the innovative practices we implement for the university.”
Currently, Educate Tomorrow at FAU supports 80 ֱ who have experienced foster care and homelessness. Students involved in Educate Tomorrow at FAU have access to academic coaching, emergency funding, and the opportunity to create relationships that will support their journey at the university. Over half of our ֱ are AOK Scholars, and organization which provides financial support for ֱ enrolled in Educate Tomorrow at FAU.
