FAU Hosts Florida Undergraduate Research Conference

Florida Atlantic University hosted the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC) 2017 on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 on its Boca Raton campus.

Florida Atlantic University recently hosted the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC) 2017 on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at FAU's Boca Raton campus. Sponsored by FAU’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry, it is one of the country’s largest multi-disciplinary research conferences and is open to all undergraduate researchers in the state.

FURC 2017 featured 330 presentations from student-researchers from 25 different colleges and universities throughout Florida. In addition to poster presentations and workshops, 33 graduate recruiters from across the country were in attendance to meet and network with à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã.

Kate Detwiler, Ph.D., an assistant professor of anthropology at FAU, served as the conference’s keynote speaker on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Delray Hyundai Deck of FAU Stadium.Ìý Detwiler specializes in studying rare and endangered primate species in the Congo rainforests and hybrid monkeys in western Tanzania. Her work on the discovery of Cercopithecus lomamiensis, a new monkey species, received international media coverage in publications including National Geographic, Science magazine and Nature.Ìý
